With the rise of hedonistic ideologies and the moving away from human nature, the rise in the belief of atheism has occurred. Looking back in the past, you can clearly see atheistic sentiments were few and little. They were the outlier. Now it is portrayed that believing in a “higher power” is “unscientific”, “backwards” and even “illogical”. Little do these scientismist natural philosopher atheists know, the arguments for the proof of God are right and very hard to refute.

To begin with we shall start off with the types of rational judgements. One point to keep in mind is that rational judgements ≠ natural occurrences. For example, just because empirically it is impossible to fly that doesn’t mean it is logically inconceivable. So there are 3 forms of rational judgements:

1. Necessary – that the rational judgement has to be true. It cannot be false

2. Impossible – that the rational judgement has to be false. It cannot be true

3. Possible – that the rational judgement has the capability of being true or false

Using this we can determine that the universe is possible. The universe could’ve not existed. Anything that is possible is contingent. Some may disagree with this statement, hence I will prove the fundamental components of the universe are contingent. If the fundamental components are contingent then it logically follows the whole universe is contingent.

So let’s begin with the first fundamental component of the universe. This is a thought experiment. Think of anything that exists. Split it in half. Split it in half again. Split it in half again. And again. So on so forth. Now let us say existent objects can be indivisible by infinity. Now what’s the problem with this? If this is the case how can we differentiate between something big or small? They’re made of the same amount of “stuff” which is infinity yet are different sizes. From this it must follow there is a unit that is indivisible. It occupies itself. It just exists as it is. This is the atom.

Now every atom is the same. How then do we know if an atom is moving, joined, coloured etc. These are properties that are “accidental” to the atom. By that we mean the atom could exist without it. Hence the other fundamental component of the universe is what we call an accident. So the accident are the properties that subside in the atom.

Now how are these two components contingent? Remainingness or continual existence is an accidental property. Accidental properties cannot hold another. They only subside in atoms. As of this, accidents only exist in a single moment (what that moment is doesn’t matter). Meaning that accidents are renewed every moment. Something that ends is contingent. Hence accidents are contingent.

Atoms contain these accidents and whatever is attached to contingency is contingent. Hence atoms are contingent too.

Now we have defined the fundamental components of the universe to be contingent then it follows so is the universe. The universe is NOT infinite. It is finite.

Now we have proven the contingency of the universe here is my syllogism:

P1 Everything that is contingent requires a cause

P2 The universe is contingent

C3 Therefore the universe has a cause

We have defined the universe as contingent. It must require a cause. The nature of this cause could be contingent or necessary. Now what if the cause was contingent? Then that contingent existence requires a cause. What if that cause is contingent? Then that requires a cause. As infinitum. This can go for infinity. This means you have what is called an infinite regress. An ability I like to use to display the illogical and impossible nature of an infinite regress is as follows:

Imagine you have a row of infinite dominoes. They’re all falling down one after another. You want to see where it began. Where did it begin? You can’t find it because it’s infinitely pre-eternal. This means there is no beginning equating to nothing in reality happening. There has to be something that caused everything. And this cause must be necessary. Necessary beings aren’t bound by time hence can cause contingent existences. This is what we call God.

The argument can be summarised as follows:

P1 Everything that is contingent requires a cause

P2 The universe is contingent

C3 Therefore the universe has a cause

P4 The cause must be necessary as that leads to an infinite regress

C5 The cause of the universe is necessary

C6 That cause is God

In conclusion, one can get to the certainty that a Creator does in fact exist, and that from this they can perhaps find the truth of Islam.
